WORTH CONSUMING!

Not bad. I decided to read this because it had a decent review in my local newspaper, I used to live in Halifax, and I’ve been reading the Rebus novels about a detective in Edinburgh, and I enjoy the little frissons of “I’ve been there!”.
It was okay. The prose and dialogue were a little flat, to be honest. The story itself was typical of these kinds of books, I’m beginning to gather, and the few characters that were developed at all were okay. I’m a little at a loss to understand Monty’s motivations for some of his actions – they don’t make him more likable, or even unlikable in a good way.
In the end, this was an easy read, but not one that will change my life. I’ll likely give Emery at least one more go, though, if there are other books.
One thing, though, Ms. Emery: we’re in Canada. Tim Horton’s is a popular chain of coffee/doughnut shops. This is understood. It’s not necessary to record characters going into a Tim’s more than once every 5 pages.
