Maybe the most important song in all of Christian rock? — 2 years ago
Norman has been referred to as the “Father of Christian rock” and I think the title is deserved. While there were a handful of others who were earlier, it was Norman who found himself quoted in the media as it struggled to understand the 1970s revival that gave birth to contemporary Christian music as one of its legacies. (If you doubt this was true revival, listen to the Elton John song “Tiny Dancer” for a somewhat disparaging remark about “Jesus freaks out in the streets…”.) This is arguably Norman’s signature song, a lament for those not taken with Christ at his Second Coming, and was covered on countless albums at the time and continues to be covered today. (DC Talk is the most recent one I’m aware of.)
