Less thrilling than I was led to believe. Very innovative, and I enjoyed the eclecticness and the recursion and self-reference. It was cool to see Sunderland as well (I’d like to go see the sculptures if nothing else). I was turned off by the non-linearness of the book, though – the jumping through time and flitting back and forth between storylines (can I call them that if they’re supposed to be true?). Also, I thought the Alice connection was too weak and too forced in a lot of places – it makes for a good hook, but I expected more, given the title.
