NOT WORTH CONSUMING

It didn’t hold my interest at all. I’m a fan of Shia LaBeouf, wasn’t an established Transformers fan, and I didn’t expect much (it is Michael Bay after all), but I wasn’t expecting to be so bored. It was all shiny toys and explosions. And why was everyone so super tan?

I have rather strong feeling about this movie, but they’re too long to fit on here.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I didn’t like it, BUT! I completely understand why people did. I just know not to ever expect anything from a Michael Bay film that will appeal to me. Though I will admit that it was super cool watching them transform.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved this movie so much. I went with a group of boys whom were big Transformers fans when they were kids, and they were in heaven. The whole movie was just ooos and aahs for them. They are now glued to the PS3 with the Transformers video game, which is just as exciting and visually pleasing. And I know a lot of devout Transformers followers and loyal fans are mad that this movie is not like the original series, but just because it isn’t an exact replica of the original doesn’t mean its not a fabulous movie or that its not intensely entertaining. The entire ride home from the theater was great, we kept hoping the cars would Transform (;

Michael Bay sucks, Transformers rule — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Anyone complaining about the content of this movie:

It is a Michael Bay adaptation of a animated TV series specifically designed to sell toys.

What did you expect, Shakespeare?

All I know is that mr. Bay didn’t botch it as badly as I feared, the giant robots were awesome, and I enjoyed myself. There were many things I could complain about but really, Michael Bay. Says it all. Cardboard characters, retard plot, annoying camera action, this movie has all the hallmarks of a Bay movie.

And giant transforming robots. Robots win the day.

ONE BIG AD — 1 year ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I didn’t watch Transformers as a kid but I was familiar with them and was looking forward to seeing this as a feature length film. Unfortunately I was left disappointed.

The good: The look of and way they handled the Transformers transforming was pretty impressive. (However it usually happened too fast to appreciate how it worked.) I could suspend disbelief enough to follow the plot.

However the rest of the movie was pretty awful: It was obviously written by and for a 14 year old boy. Geeky selfish, spoiled upper-middle class Caucasian boy gets his dad to buy him a new car so he can ditch his friend to go after a “hot” girl (who he doesn’t even know anything about other than that she is attractive) of course.. he saves the world/gets the girl. The script was pathetic – trying to be hip in places it didn’t work. Editing was bad—too hard to follow the fights and the bouncing between plot points was not well done.

I counted at least 10 separate product placements and would love to know just how much of the budget GMC paid to get their name and their logo all over the Transformers. I could have forgiven the rest of the flaws but paying $10 to see an ad really really pisses me off.

WORTH CONSUMING!

There’s some already great reviews that go over basic plot so I’ll skip that.

We took our two youngest sons to see this movie last night and I was pleasantly surprised how entertained I was. After being disappointed with Shrek 3, Pirates and Spiderman earlier this year, this movie was a welcome change. With 5 kids we sit through a lot of kids movies.) The special effects were great! There was some great humor and the movie was overall fairly intelligent. The kid’s parents got on my nerves and some of the logistics of the “hacking” were laughable (but no more so than any other movie really). Overall, it was worth the time and money spent. We might purchase this when it comes out on DVD.

WORTH CONSUMING!

First, let me just say I was in the mood for a more intellectual film when I watched this, so my review isn’t exactly fair:

I was won over by the human characters and the humor. Really, the robots held nothing for me, I could have done without them if they didn’t contribute so much to the killer action sequences.

This movie was about a half an hour too long. I couldn’t wait for it to end. By time we got to the climax, I didn’t really care about what happened to them as long as it meant the movie would come to a close. Some of the side-plots should have been cut out entirely. After all, some were pushed aside for so long that they were hardly worth having!

In short, you tend to forget there is barely a plot because you are so caught up in the amazing effects. However, it could do without that extra half hour. Amazing? Hardly. Stimulating? Sure. It’s a fun little film.

quickly:

i agree with the last poster:

TOO MANY HUMANS.
and not just that, but too many extremely obnoxious and spazzoid humans. take a BREATH, for chrissake!

however, the autobots were done entirely too well :) i was thrilled. i thought the flames on optimus prime might annoy me, but they created his character so well, i didn’t notice through the movie.

props: bumblebee: beeyotch!
props: the interaction between starscream and megatron “you continue to disappoint me, starscream.” dude…that guy was ALWAYS megatron’s bitch
props: starscream fighting jet planes…that was outstanding

worth seeing, especially if transformers were a big part of your childhood, as they were mine

WORTH CONSUMING!

Starting Anthony Anderson, John Turturro, Jon Voight as Defense Secretary John Keller, Josh Duhamel, Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes, Rachael Taylor as Maggie Madsen, Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, Tyrese Gibson as Sergeant Epps, and Peter Cullen reprising his voice acting role of Optimus Prime from the original cartoon series and the animated movie. Directed by Micheal Bay.

The movie begins with Optimus Prime Voice over, “Before time began, there was… the cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them… with life. That is how our race was born. For a time we had lived in harmony, but like all great power, some wanted it for good… others, evil. And so, began the war. A war that ravages our planet until it was consumed by death. And the cube was lost to the far reaches of space. We step in across the galaxy hoping to find it and rebuild our home. Searching every star. Every world. And just when all hopes seem lost; message of a new discovery took us to an unknown planet called… Earth. But we were already too late.”

I like that they have the transformers with all new looks and vechicles and of course this is excellent product placement for GM (the new Chevy Camero, H2, Pontiac Solstice, and GMC Topkick 6500), Ford Mustang, E bay (“ARE YOU LADIESMAN217?”), GPX, and Panasonic so the parents know what toys to buy after they buy hasbro’s toys for their kids. I wonder if GM paid extra to have the Camero lay the smack down on the mustang in the Transformers movie…..but I digress.

I have a few minor gripes about the movie. First and foremost. Peter Cullen should get some billing on this. His name is no where on the official site, flixster.com, but he is credited on IMDB. Peter Cullen IS Prime. Give the man some respect. If you can put Anthony Anderson (who has a minor bit part and needs a punch in the cock.) on the credits at least put Peter Cullen on there. Also none of the robots voices are credited except for Bumblebee on IMDB. Did Peter Cullen do Ironhide like he did in the series and the animated movie? Secondly the CGI was very well done but at times it was too fast or too much. And lastly more Transformers! This tale is told strictly from the human point of view. If there is a sequel it needs more lines from the robots. Lastly too many humans.

This movie steals a line or two from the series and the animated movie. Just like the animated movie there is one use of the S-Word and a stolen line of Optimus Prime. “At the end of this day… one shall stand, one shall fall.” And the More than meets the eye line of course. The one curse word wasn’t as well done as it was in the first Animated movie, but I thought it was a nice tip of the hat to the original. The MPAA gave this one a PG-13 (the original had a PG rating). I guess the one curse word puts it over the PG edge!

Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox both do a good job in pulling their weight in the movie. Overall this is an excellent movie, the action is all there, and the comedic bits were funny. Mr Bay if you are reading this, for the sequel less humans more robots. The title is Transformers not humans.

WORTH CONSUMING!

If you’re looking for a fun summer movie to dazzle you with special effects, Transformers is your movie. The plot is thin but strong enough to hold—just remember to buy into it and leave the petty grievances behind. The main character, Sam (Shia LaBeouf), is pretty well developed and is certainly a good centerpiece for the drama. LaBeouf plays an awkward teenager very well and is genuinely funny without being pathetic. However, the robot characters are simply plot tools helping to carry the story but investing nothing in terms of emotional connection. The original cartoon series showcased the robots (both Autobots and Diseptikons) as realistic characters with individual personalities. Their personalities, in fact, were the main draw. Imagine the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kicking Shredder’s ass without the witty one-liners, pizza eating, skateboarding and video game playing. It’s just not the same. It’s just not as fun. The filmmakers surrendered a golden opportunity to bring out such a character in Sam’s car named Bumble Bee. They dodge the goofball factor by not stooping to cartoon-like body language and facial expressions but end up losing a lot of that vital connection. It is fun, however, to see the Transformer Camaro feign mechanical malfunctions and tune in appropriate 80’s hits on the radio to help prod Sam along with the beautiful Mikaela (Megan Fox). All in all: it’s a decent way to flee the heat on a hot summer’s day.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve been a fan of Transformers for over ten years now (hm, I think I lost count already…), and I’ve been waiting for this movie for four years. I just got home from seeing it, so here is what I think about it.

First of all, very impressed with the movie overall. The humor and action were mixed very well together, and thankfully Sam and Mikaela’s love didn’t get too much in the way. The Transformers looked great and hearing Peter Cullen’s voice again was wonderful. :P Acting was great, but I wish we heard more speech from the Transformers. I feel that the voice actors for the Decepticons were underused, and I really liked the way the voices were. Starscream’s voice was very familar and I just loved Barricade’s.

Megatron. Wow. He looked so ugly on the computer and as a toy, but in action, he looked great and I loved his jet mode. You hardly even notice those annoying teeth of his. Unfortunatly, he still didn’t give off that “Megatron” flare as well as I would have liked.

Prime. Wish he could just keep his faceplate on.

Overall, the Transformers had a very familar feel to them…I don’t know if I could call it G1-y…I wasn’t alive for G1. I think a lot of fans were worried about changes in the characters personalities, but they all stand up to their respective characters quite well.

The two problems for me with the movie were the plot holes and the shaky camera…and the camera is what I have the biggest beef with. During the battles, especially the last one, I had a really hard time figuring out who was shooting at who during the last battle. Sadly, the darned shaky camera also takes away from the movie, since I was trying to figure out wheret he battle was going. As for the plot holes, they weren’t too noticable, but when I thought it about it, they were kinda obvious.

I am definetly going to see Transformers again, not only cuz it was awesome…but to try to see if I can make anything of that stupid shaky camera. Overall, I give Transformers a four and a half out of five stars.
