The cartoon features at the beginning and end of the film are more or less true to the original Quincy Magoo, complete with Jim Backus’ voice over. Leslie Nielsen gives a good effort in the leading role, but he doesn’t quite make it work. I’ve seen him do much better comedy, and he’s much too tall to be the real Magoo. Minor parts are well cast with Jennifer Garner, Malcolm McDowell and Miguel Ferrer, but they have no opportunity to develop as full-blown characters… just two-dimensional cartoon caricatures. The chase scenes on snow and in a Eggplantmobile are fun, and very Disney. No one ever gets hurt. See this with an adolescent. It’s a decidedly unadult comedy.
