WORTH CONSUMING!

This is an odd film, mainly troubling to me because I found myself sympathising with Gene Tierney’s character. In lots of reviews she’s described as “evil” or “vicious” but really she seemed sad and pathetic. Yes murderous, but compared with other, similar, genre films her character wasn’t that bad in the circumstances.

She gets no love or intimacy from her husband (a man who pursued her despite her already being attached to another)and then he goes off with her sister. That is no excuse for murder obviously but it’s a pitiable situation.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Bright and sunny melodrama but can’t help feel that if this was filmed in black and white it would have been one of the great film noirs. Gene Tieranny’s Ellen is without a doubt one of filmdom’s great villians.
