NOT WORTH CONSUMING

…for the original TMNT animated series and the old live-action movies. I can understand some people’s desire to revive such an awesome series after it sort of phased out of existence a decade ago (or, rather, its target fans grew up), but to me the originals are still better. Granted, I haven’t seen the new cartoon series, but if it’s anything like this movie, then I probably don’t need to.

My biggest gripe with the movie itself is that it feels like a made-for-TV movie. It’s obviously not made for people who don’t know the series already, so newcomers to the TMNT universe won’t really know what’s going on; hell, if I didn’t know the characters and their relationships from the original movies/series then I wouldn’t have known what’s going on. Plus, the characters have undergone a lot of changes from the old days, which I’m not too keen on.

The plot itself just feels out of place too. Whereas Krang, Dimension X, and all that Technodrome jazz seemed to fit within the realm of the original series, the plot in this new TMNT film … uh, well, yeah, it just feels out of place, as I said. Not to mention it seems a little convenient that everything just happens to take place smack-dab in the middle of New York City.

But, whatever. I used to be a die-hard fan of the originals back when I was a kid, and maybe I’m just terribly biased because of it. I still didn’t find this film worth watching, but it did make me realize just how long it’s been. And it does make me want to rush out and get the old movies on DVD.
