WORTH CONSUMING!

i noticed i started humming during the opening scene because the music was so catchy. i looked up and realized people were being led to the gallows and the ding in the beat was the trap door opening and the people being hanged. it was great! what a wonderful way to start the film. i agree with the others, this one was better than the second but doesn’t rival the first. lots of action, but i felt it was a bit long. all in all a good flick.

but I don’t understand that. Not as good as the first, I thought, but certainly better than the second. Lots of cool fight sequences to keep the action going, a few side plots, AND they leave it open in case they want to make a fourth. I don’t think they’ll ever equal the awesomeness of the first one, but I still enjoyed it.

that the first was excellent, not expecting much from a movie based on a theme park ride. The second wasn’t very good. This did start off as incredibly confusing. I didn’t find anything funny. My boyfriend laughed a couple of times but the rest of the theatre was quiet. I did like it better than the second but it felt a little too long.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved the first, and pretty much disliked the second, so my hopes were not so high for this third. But! I liked it! I think I can even say I loved it. It felt like a bit of the wit from CotBP was injected into AWE. It was funny. The story was good – a bit complicated, but not too much. Keira was pretty. (I don’t know why, but I really got into Will/Elizabeth this time, although usually I’m more of a Sparrabeth type of girl. But the “I’m losing her, Jack” line really got me. I think I even liked Orlando Bloom, just for that second.)

I can’t wait to buy the DVD and see it again :)

WORTH CONSUMING!

I spent a good part of this film confused, to be honest – it’s been almost a year since the start of the story, and there’s no catch up. Even when I vaguely got a grip, there were still new things thrown in apparently at whim, that I couldn’t quite piece in fully.

Hmm. It was too long, the beginning bits without Jack Sparrow were a bit dull. And the post-credits scene wasn’t worth the wait.

Still. The piratey theme and pirates themselves were all fun. And it was miles better than Spider-Man 3.

To sum it up, not as good as the first but better than the second. We all know sequels are hard to pull off but my absolute distaste for the second film (although it is better the second time you watch it) really had me on the fence regarding my expectations for the third. While I would ultimately recommend this movie and say it was enjoyable, with beautiful scenery and non-stop action, the acting was a bit lack-luster and the plot struggled. I thought the multiple Captain Jack’s were odd and very unnecessary addition to the plot; Elizabeth Swan was overzealous in her attempt to be more pirate-like which actually came off more pitiful than encouraging; and the Calypto plot-line was rather abrupt and underdeveloped (it seemed to serve only as the unmotivational-motivation to bring about a resolution-like ending). In fact, it was the less main stage and smaller characters that really shined in this film (Capt. Barbossa, James Norrington, Pintel, Ragetti, Gibbs, Murtogg, Mullroy, and even the monkey and parrot).

So it is a long movie and it is really good don’t get me wrong. What kinda pissed me off was that the way it ended there ahs to be another one! The map thing, like come on. But i don’t know if anyone else caught this but there was a small clip after the credits, it was really good, tied the end and start together really well. If you didn’t catch it, find a way to.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie is rather long (nearly 3 hours) but it’s absolutely stunning visually. I’m not much of a Pirates fan (I went with my boyfriend who is) but it’s worth a watch, especially if you’re into the Pirates series.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

After absolutely loving the first movie, and not-really-liking the second one, I had my doubts about the third part. But, I’m a person who eats everything on her plate, finishes all the books she starts reading (even if they’re not that good) and, apparently, watches sequels if she’s seen the first part.

I’m sorry to say I was really disappointed with this. The plot was confusing as hell (actually, what plot? there were just these ideas scattered around, not fully fleshed out or linked in a way that would make sense), the characters came across as annoying bastards (and the scene where Keira Knightley was trying to be all captain-y with her screeching voice was one of the funniest parts of the movie), the humour that made me love the first movie simply wasn’t here, and the whole thing lasted about 2 hours too long. Sure, there were some amusing scenes, some really clever parts, but all in all, it wasn’t worthy of consumption.

And PS. The people at the cinema turned off the projector about halfway into the credits, so we didn’t see the extra scene. I want my money back! ;)

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I chatted with a friend about this last night, and I came up with some succinct criticism.

the entire film was a parody of what the original was all about. a rehash of every joke, gag, line, mannerism. an exaggeration of the subtlety that made the first one brilliant. beginning to end this film just completely lost its spark and its way

In addition, it was a really boring film. Not enough swashbuckling if you ask me. That and the plot made no sense.

Still, I know everyone is going to see it, so if you do, stay ‘til the very end. The first two had little things after the credits, and this one does two. That little end bit was one of the best parts of the movie. And it wasn’t even that great.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The last time around i was more than a little surprised and at first i wasn’t sure if i liked or disliked the movie. i was so mad when Elizabeth kissed Jack, absolutely irate, not because of what happened to Jack, but because of what it did to Will. It gave Jack a chance to show his bold side, even if he hadn’t chosen that course of action. But Dead Man’s Chest gradually grew on me, for all it’s silliness and over the top humor, i couldn’t help but appreciate it the more i saw it.

This film has a surprise ending but without the negative shock value of the last, even though it is sad. i don’t think that i would have chosen this ending, and i’m actually surprised that i didn’t figure out the twist sooner, but i am still content with the film, even with how the Will/Elizabeth relationship is concluded. With more Jack than i was expecting i would have thought that the movie would seem more ridiculous, but somehow it worked for me. Norrington and Governor Swan come to satisfying conclusions for me as well, though also sad.

There is a lot more piracy going on in this film, even Will and Elizabeth start taking part in the back stabbing. The battles and locations are awe inspiring on a new scale, and even the lunacy seems to make sense. But not everything is fun and games this time around, everyone seems more serious. i feel so badly for Davy Jones in the end! For a while i wasn’t sure who i should root for, who i wanted to win, how i wanted things to end up, because the only noble ending was sad for so many beloved characters. Who would have ever thought i would be rooting for pirates anyway? i, for one, do not lack a moral center, but here the edges are blurred, the plotlines intertwined, i am going to need another viewing or two to take it all in and figure it out. But i’ve discovered that seeing any ship be blown apart really takes it out of me, no matter which side is being defeated. The film provides and interesting twist on pirate history and brings it around for a good conclusion while leaving the possibilities open for more sequels…

p.s. When you see it don’t forget to stay around for the “ten years later” at the end of the credits.
