NOT WORTH CONSUMING
I tried this on audio and had to stop around chapter eight. I didn’t like the characters and had problems with the layout of the narrative. I’ve enjoyed a bunch of Steinbeck’s other books—Of Mice and Men, The Pearl, The Grapes of Wrath, and Travels with Charley. But those all have PLOTS!
The vignette style of writing just doesn’t do much for me—I disliked The House on Mango Street for the same reason. Cannery Row is more like a painting than a linear story.
