Really Good, up to a point. — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Very good movie up till the final conflict and then it goes downhill from there. The ending bites. Before that it is really good creepy movie. Excellent special effect creatures.

WORTH CONSUMING!

So it’s based on a videogame, but I don’t really play videogames so I thought to myself that perhaps the plot would be somewhat interesting since I wasn’t familiar with it.

The dialogue was enjoyable because of the level of cheese. At one point Radha Mitchell’s character says, (I shit you not) “Shut up, you stupid cop.” Heeeheeeeheeeee! Again, I’ve not played the game, but I’m dead certain that 90% of the dialogue for the movie was lifted from it. Whatever, it didn’t bother me.

My sole reason for paying 9 bucks to see this movie was the monsters. They were fanfrickentastic. I heart monsters so this was just the nicest way to spend a Friday night, seriously. Plus, the theater has this huge gameroom and restaurant but that’s beside the point.

To reiterate: This movie is based on a video game. The dialogue is laughable at best. The characters were fine. I didn’t really care what happened to them, but they were alright I guess. But the monsters. The monsters=awesome.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

It was pretty, and there were parts I liked, such as the monsters (I thought they got them right on) and overall, the visual effects. Very well done. But the plot was horrible, and it’s a bad sign when the entire audience laughs at dramatic moments. Plus, it just didn’t feel creepy to me, even though I felt as though it should have. Something was missing. Like a reason to care about what happened to any of the characters.

I was told by a Silent Hill fan that it was excellent if you had played and liked the games (I haven’t gotten around to playing more than 20 minutes of SH3 yet, myself, although I want to), and he also agreed that as a movie, it was crap.

I might watch it again, but only if it wasn’t going to cost me anything (ie when my fiancĂ© buys the DVD, since he liked it).

WORTH CONSUMING!

Even though a few character points were changed, I think this movie was pretty good for a survival horror video game turned movie. Much better than some (i.e. Alone in the Dark, Doom). I think that if you are familiar with the Silent Hill video games you will see the similarities better some of the camera angles in the movie and the game. I think fans of Silent Hill should definitely go see this movie.
