The series continues, but not as strongly as the beginning. I find the plot is dragging a little more lately, so we’ve got some rather good scenes interspersed with pages of not much happening. Like The Wheel of Time, only one or two stories are at all interesting at any moment (and in this volume, all of those were because of social/psychological issues, rather than any actual action – at least Williams seems to be able to write about people when he tries), and there are a number of background threads that really don’t contribute much.
Also, what’s with introducing wildly different new character/concepts halfway through what’s technically the third book of a three-book series?
Still, I’ve been drawn in, and am keen to learn how things work out for my current favourite characters.
