WORTH CONSUMING!

I highly recommend this book. She goes into many things, like how the supermarket is set up (good for profits, bad for your waist); some interesting things about nutrition (why you really do need some carbs); the politics of the FDA & USDA; safety concerns, processed vs. unprocessed foods; marketing towards children; etc. Yes, it is over 500 pages, but it’s worth every page. It made me more aware of what I am buying and she gave good recommendations & tools to make smart decisions without being overly preachy.

For example: think of sodas & fruit juices as desserts; they shouldn’t be everyday affairs.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Marion Nestle’s aisle by aisle tour of the grocery store is enough to make anyone not want to eat anymore. More than anything, it makes me wish I knew a lot more about the food situation in Canada, because if it’s anywhere as bad as the one in the states, I’m very afraid. On the other hand, it makes me wish I could continue to have my head in the sand about the food supply…

I guess the answer is to keep working on my quest to reduce the processed food I consume and up my dedication to local and home-made. Can’t wait to buy that chest freezer.
