Very ambitious of Eastwood to do a WWII film in Japanese, but he pulled it off. Taken with his later work, “Flags of our Fathers,” he has told the saga of the battle of Iwo Jima from two very different perspectives. Well done.

This movie shows Iwo Jima from the Japanese (hopeless) perspective. For once a war movie which does not side with the “good Americans”, but shows how during war, normal people with normal flaws are caught up on both sides, with all their personal history, beliefs, fears, baggage and their country’s customs.

Not for people with a light stomach.
