I watched this with my daughter tonight. She and I are big fans of Wuthering Heights, so when I saw this at the library I told her that this was a story by her sister and she wanted to watch it right away. What a great film! I never read the book, though I’m sure I will soon. My daughter is a complete convert to the Bronte sisters; she can barely get through any of the syrupy Austen novels or movies, but W.H. and the Eyre movie have her completely sucked in.

I’m a college sophomore – an English major to be exact – and I read Jane Eyre when I was ten/twelve. The book was marvelous and since then, I’ve seen quite a few remakes of it. However, when I stopped on the PBS version of it and watched the complete part one, all I could think was that THIS was Jane Eyre. This was the epitome of any movie they could make of Charlotte Brontë’s book.

This movie is the best adaptation of Jane Eyre in existence.
Of course, that’s just my opinion but this movie is going into my collection.

The newest PBS adaptation of Jane Eyre was the best I’ve seen. I’m contemplating buying it on DVD. I really liked Ruth Wilson (a newcomer) and Toby Stevens as the main characters. This is my favorite version by far. This even inspires me to read the book once and for all!

It’s a two parter. next week I get to see what happens. will jane come back from her aunts, will she figure out what’s going on upstairs and so on. so far pretty cheesy. Rochester is kinda creepy, maybe he always has been.
