A story about this — 2 years ago
A man pretending to be mentally challenged to ‘fix’ the special olympics does not sound like the most politically correct of movies. However, not only did The Ringer get the thumbs up from the (real) Special Olympics, but it turned out to be an excellent portrayal of disabilities, imo. Not only are the special olympians shown as real, rounded people, but they cotton on to Johnny Knoxville’s subterfuge almost instantly. It’s only the slight condescending ‘normal’ helpers who fall for the ott act. Which says something, I feel.
