Curious about Wizard... — 2 years ago
I mostly picked this up because of the Neil Gaiman blurb on the cover. I wasn’t disappointed, but the book wasn’t quite as good as I was lead to believe. Wolfe has built an interesting world – his ideas of faerie, heaven, dragons, and vampires are unique and there’s definitely potential there.
The characterization was weak – in particular, Able sounded alternately like a child and an older, fairly wise man. (I know he’s narrating his adventures as a child from the point of view of an older, wiser man, but the POV and the sound didn’t match up.)
Still, it was a fairly fun, easy read, and I’ll stick around to see how it turns out.
Oh, and “foining” better play an integral part in the second book, or I’ll be slightly miffed.
