I had serious doubts about this film. I didn’t want to be at the whim of some maudlin, sappy movie about a midlife crisis. But A Good Year completely charmed me. Russell Crowe convincingly portrays an investment banker who’s lost touch with what’s important in life. Then he inherits his uncle’s vineyard in France, life-changing events occur, and he makes wine. If the DVD hadn’t skipped all the time, I would have enjoyed the viewing more. This film is definitely one to watch on an early summer afternoon.
