A story about this — 2 years ago
Non-demanding, pre-exam read take two! I really need to be in the mood for Terry Brooks, and today I obivously was, as my post-exam ‘treat’ involved spending an hour and a half (!) sitting in an increasingly lukewarm bath finishing this.
Following the death of his wife, lawyer Ben Holiday takes up a crazy advert selling a magic kingdom – that of Landover, home to wizards and dragons and sprites and more. The land might turn out to be real, but the purchased kingship doesn’t come without a fight or two – as told in the first volume, Magic Kingdom for Sale – Sold!
Book 2, The Black Unicorn, sees Ben fairly settled in his new life, until a dream tells him that his former partner is in serious danger. Meanwhile, court wizard, Quester Thews, dreams the location of the missing books of magic. And a black unicorn is seen again in the kingdom…
It’s not a great book. It’s predictable as heck, and a little childish. But today that was what I needed.
