A story about this — 43 weeks ago
It took me what, a year, eighteen months to finally finish this?!
I found Stephen Baxter’s Manifold series pretty hard going. While totally fictional, there’s just enough ‘hard science’ to require concentration – far too many references to real-world space events that I just didn’t know enough about. Really, I found the whole thing a bit bleak, I think. And perhaps a little too same-y but not quite to read more than a story or two at one time.
That said, some of the ideas are fantastic, and it was good to explore some more of them in shorter forms. Worth looking at the author’s note early on, I think, as it labels which stories are ‘pendants’ of the full novels and thus seem confusingly familiar.
You probably could tackle this first, but it might make slightly more sense if you’ve read Time, Space, and Origin first.
