I think compilations on the Blue Note label far surpass the equivalent releases on Verve or Capitol Jazz. This best of collection of Bud Powell is no exception. It’s difficult to capture the magic of jazz albums on compilations, but several Powell original compositions stand out on this release. Among them are: Bouncing With Bud, Un Poco Loco, Parisian Thoroughfare, and Glass Enclosure. There are four bonus tracks on this release – I really enjoyed the live recording of Bud Powell’s interpretation of Like Someone In Love.
