Wow. This might be my favorite Dustin Hoffman role ever, and it’s hard to top Tootsie for endearing. ;-)
Seriously, this is a devastatingly honest film.

I watched this several days ago and it’s still on my mind. The film still has impact today. The most interesting part were the surreal, dreamlike sequences like when Joe Buck is “chasing” Rizzo onto the subway.
I would have liked to know more about what happened between Joe Buck and “Crazy” Annie and some of the film could have definitely been cut out—the Andy Warholesque party was a bit superfluous for example—but overall it was a movie without any heroes that asks questions about why people sometimes end up in unfortunate situations.

I “consumed” about an hour of this and finally decided I’d waited long enough for something to happen. How the heck did this thing win an Oscar??
