WORTH CONSUMING!

I have no idea why it took me so long to see this. I’ve had 24 years to watch it, and I just got around to it. Oh, well…it was worth the wait. But what was with the unicorn scene? Did the director just take that out of “Legend”?

Could somebody please explain to me what is so fantastic about this movie? (What sets it apart from all the other similar movies). Is it simply that it came first, so the ideas would have seemed more clever had we not heard them before? Did it use particular cinematographic techniques that you have to have studied film to appreciate?

I had to watch this for my class on The City. I don’t really get why it was set for that class, but I guess I’ll find out next thursday. I came up with some crazy theory about capitalism and oompa loompas, at least I will amuse the professor, even if I look nuts.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I didn’t get it. The book was much clearer. This movie made no sense to me but I hear the original movie is quite differnt than this Director’s Cut version.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Batty: I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I like the idea of accelerated decrepitation. Reveling in your time. ‘The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long’ thing. I’m not sure that I would choose that, but it’s interesting to think about. Anyway, this movie clearly chose the second. Everything about it was dark. Even the screen was so dark that you couldn’t even see what was going on a lot of the time. And it was long.

I think I’d watch it again, though. Full of interesting ideas. I don’t even know what went on.

Harrison Ford was totally a robot.

I watched this with Christine and Whitney.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

i’m currently taking a World’s Greatest Films class and this is the second time i saw this. Even though i’m a sci fi and Harrison Ford fan i still didn’t like it. In fact, both times i was trying really hard not to fall asleep about 3/4 of the way through the film and i never fall asleep in movies! i’ve given this one up, two chances was enough…

WORTH CONSUMING!

Blade Runner is a classic adaptation of a sf novel and a brilliant reworking of the material of the Philip K. Dick novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The brilliant touch that Ridley Scott brings to the material is to rework a novel that is heavily based on personal reality into the cinematic framework of film noir. The elements of “what is reality” are downplayed as the detective elements are emphasized. It takes a very internalized novel and externalizes through a detective story. The look, pacing and score still hold up and unlike some past favourites that don’t seem to age well, Blade Runner still is a remarkable film.

I love the soundtrack to Blad Runner. Vangelis rocked this one pretty hard.
