A story about this — 1 year ago
This story of passion among Cuban refugees in Florida is very well acted by Marisa Tomei and Alfred Molina, with a supporting role by Anjelica Huston. Twenty years in Castro’s prisons do not diminish the desire of Juan Perez (Molina) to reunite with his wife and daughter who escaped to Coral Gables. But the path a heart follows is rarely straight in this film. Along the way, he picks up a surrogate family, made up entirely of refugees named Perez. Of comic interest is “Papi” Perez, who keeps stripping off all his clothes and climbing to high places for a glimpse of the Cuba he left. It’s an intriguing study of the meaning of family and the power of love to connect and/or separate people. Give it a look.
