I was so skeptical of an actor writing a good book, but after I read Shopgirl, I was convinced. He uses a very spare, unpretentious style that I love. AFTER: I can safely say that Steve Martin is fast becoming one of my favorite writers. This was so funny and quirky.

Satisfying!

I almost gave up on this because it wasn’t clear where a story about an obsessive compulsive person was going. I’m glad I stayed with it, because the story finally developed, and was done very well.

An interesting novella about an extrmely nuerotic guy and how he copes with the world. Fascinting, entertaining, amusing, funny and touching all at the same time. A well developed character study by Steve Martin.

I liked this book better than “Shopgirl.” This book is sad at points but hopeful, an absorbing read.

I think this is one of the best books… EVER! Really!

I listened to this one on CD to and from the office, and people must have thought I was insane. I would drive by or sit at a light and just laugh out loud! Steve Martin, besides being a comedic genius, is an excellent writer. The best part and why I wanted it on CD – He narrates. I think it makes the biggest difference.

The book is about Daniel, a quirky character who has a lot of heart and thinks of things is such a different way. However, I think all of us have a little of Daniel in ourselves. He has to have the lights in his house equalling a certain wattage at all times. He has issues with curbs – basically just walking over them. He makes things up all the time, and what comes out of his mouth is just hilarious!

But then you see what a kind, sweet person he is. He may have some “mental unstability,” but he is a caring person who has feelings like everyone else.

I cannot say this enough – YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK! It is short. It won’t take long…. SO GET IT! I promise you will not regret it.
