A story about this — 4 years ago

Starhawk has definitely taken a political turn with this one. Well…not that she hasn’t been political before. But I think she is really intent on proposing a political-action-based spirituality here. But this book is not about protests—it reveals all the ways in which you can take a political stand just by the way you live your life: by the food you buy, by the energy you use, by the organizations you support. This is, in that case, a much more twenty-first-century Starhawk than the Starhawk of The Spiral Dance. I loved the way the book was structured: Starhawk deliniates chapters by Element (Air, Fire, Water, Earth) and discusses the way in which these elements infuse and sustain our lives, both spiritually and practically. She includes meditations and rituals, as usual, as well as suggestions for aforementioned “secular” practices one can engage in to improve the condition of our natural environment. Due to the intense focus on Nature and activism, I would recommend this book to all environmentalists, as well as pagans who wish to understand more clearly the political merits of their religious practice.
