WORTH CONSUMING!

This is a profoundly important book. Readers will learn, most importantly, about what’s called a ‘progress trap.’

A progress trap is one in which you become ensnared as the result of perfecting a given technology/process/system. The trap triggers a general regression, as the acquisition of the very goal you’re working toward causes some unforseen catastrophe.

The quintessential progress trap was the perfection of hunting. Once humans discovered that they could simply herd buffalo over a cliff to kill them en masse, hunting was deemed to have been perfected; it reached a point where it was tremendously efficient and safe. Thing is… once this hunting practice led to the extinction of the buffalo, everyone began to starve. Mass starvation was the trap laid by the natural progress of hunting.
