A story about this — 2 years ago
One of the saddest books I ever read right here; another story on race and most particularly color; A man and woman married; the man was light enough to pass; the woman was dark; the man was of mixed heritage. They had a set of children; One, a little girl who was light enough, but not enough to pass for white; Well, once the mother died, those who could, left, and the little girl was brought up by other people and rejected by her siblings due to the simple fact that she wasn’t light enough and would expose them; this happened in the early 1900s(1910s-1930s); she even tried to reach out to them by getting in contact with them to connect with them but they wouldn’t reach out to her to keep their secret in tact; It was only after 75 years that the sister would reach out to her youngest sister and get reacquainted; both of them grandmothers and all. what a story. Highly recommended.
