Fletch is the movie for me the exemplifies Chevy Chase at his best. Dry, smart, goofy humour. He mugs for the camera, and like back in his days of Saturday Night Live his own character shines through the role he is suppose to play. Some of these things may be faults, may be distracting but for me this is what is really enjoyable about his movies. If you watch his filmography it’s amazing that so many of the same jokes appear over and over again, regardless of director, writer, or context. He will roll his eyes ridiculously and pull faces behind people’s backs, he will usually refer to a male character with a made up female name, he’ll make up a name for himself, speak gibberish, trip himself and fall awkwardly or pull some other awkward stunt. Long short of it Chevy Chase is amazing.
This is a quintessential Chevy Chase film and I think miles beyond the Vacation series.
