Why I recommend this — 26 weeks ago
Me? Physics? Not likely – until I read Brian Greene’s book. I even think I understand it on a very basic level, and that’s a huge salute to his communicative style. His presentation of string theory also touches on topics I’ve read on elsewhere, but brings them into more of a whole, including the impacts on us all of sound, vibrations, frequencies, (a black hole is a very low B flat), parallel universes, synesthesia, and so on.
I later viewed the PBS DVD version of The Elegant Universe, and “got it” even more. Aside from being excited that my brain could actually take in this subject matter, I can also understand why Greene is called the first physicist in history to have groupies. He doesn’t write or speak down to those of us with more lowly intellectual capacities, he comes across as a regular, likeable guy, which has to be a major talent for someone so immersed in such a complex field of study.
