It’s filled with both large and zoomed-in illustrations, mostly black and white, and some color. The black and white illustrations complement the white marble sculptures and the color illulstrations emphasize the multi-colored sculptures, architecture and atmospheres. Detailed information is given about each work of art listed, from the beginning to the end of Bernini’s life. The most current edition of this book was published in 1997, so it only has a preparatory drawing of the last sculpture he made, the Salvatore Mundi, which could not be traced at the time. It was since found in 2001 in Rome.
