WORTH CONSUMING!

As far as your Mid-Western dysfunctional family saga’s go, The Corrections is at the top of it’s game.

That being said, I thought that the author did some unnecessary verbal gymnastics and the book could have been about 150 pages shorter.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really liked this book, although it was not the kind of book that astounded me. Perhaps the interweaving of the story seemed a little forced…I don’t know…but it was good without being great.

I will add this to my list of Midwest-themed dysfunctional family fiction. It goes along well with Middlesex (fantastic book!) set in Detroit and Crooked River Burning set in Cleveland (also excellent!), yet it doesn’t quite marvel in the ways that the others do.

Maybe it is because the story is really also about Parkinson’s and that is a difficult and painful subject embedded into the already difficult family narrative. I think the book is definitely worth reading and if you give it a chance that it delivers in the end.
