WORTH CONSUMING!

Melodramatic or not, this movie is worth watching just because I think it’s safe to say that most people don’t even know of the events (again, exaggerated or not) that are depicted within it.

Watch it and do some of your own research, but just thinkthinkthink about why we don’t have a fully electric car and polar bears are in trouble. Do Pooh Bear proud.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Okay, I had to step up to the plate and be the first to say that this movie was NOT well done. Don’t get me wrong—I’m all for saving the environment, finding alternative fuels, stopping reckless oil consumption, blah blah blah. But this movie is so incredibly one-sided that it made me feel uncomfortable. The other side of the argument is never considered and makes the government, oil industry, auto industry, etc. out to be heartless villains. I happen to agree that decisions were made in favor of shameless self-interest and zero accountability for ethics but without even the slightest attempt at a counter-argument it deflates the effectiveness of the desired message. To aspiring filmmakers: please give your audience the benefit of the doubt that they will reach a valid conclusion with their own minds rather than being spoon fed.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Are you one of those people wondering why in the world we need a documentary on electric cars? Does the subject ring a faint bell, but you don’t think it’s really all that important? That is the place I was at when I heard about this movie. I knew it would be preaching to the choir, as I am pretty into environmental topics and I thought that I could put off seeing the film.

Well, don’t make my mistake. This is a great documentary and it will do the amazing feat of making you mourn the loss of a car you hardly knew about. After watching this movie you will also understand the difference between the electric car, the hybrid, and the fuel cell car and be able to intellgently converse about the factors involved in the death of electric cars: consumers, technology (batteries), the automotive industry, the federal/California state government, and the oil industry.

Now I know why electric cars are a vague memory. I also know now that they shouldn’t be. They were a successful, desired product that was manipulated out of existance around the same time the Hummer was mass-marketed. Coincidence?

This is an essential film for those who want to remain an informed and articulate voice in the future U.S. energy policy.
