My husband picked up this book, and when I saw the title I said I would never read a book titled “State of Fear”. Why I didn’t listen to myself I still don’t know.
So far I have read about 60 pages. Did not understand what he is writing about, I am gonna persist and succeed.

Okay, I’m gonna stop pretending I am reading this and take it off my list until I resume reading it. I read about 150 pages on the plane in December and I never picked it up again. This probably indicates that it isn’t a great book, though I seem to have an aversion to paper books lately so I think that is also a major factor. I never read The Broker either. Need audio version or a vacation.

Fantastic Crichton.
It has been fun to say “There’s no such thing as global warming” in front of my friends and see their reaction.

December 2004 – Hardback. I saw this at Costco and was excited to see a new Crichton novel. The format is a little choppy and hard to et into at first (broken into short segments by time and location) but I ended up reading more than 150 pages on the flights home from Mexico. Unfortunately I haven’t picked it up since. I’m having trouble reading “paper” books lately. I can’t seem to sit still and focus that long. I like multi-tasking…

(completed 2005/02/01 – great story, asks lots of great questions…)
Eye-opening stuff but I feel it’s different from Crichton’s earlier works. There the story was backed up by solid scientific research. here, however, he seems to have woven the story around the research. So, it looks a bit contrived. Rocking nevertheless.

Once again, I’m impressed with the amount of research that goes into Michael Crichton’s novels. This is the only novel I can remember reading that has footnote citations. Unlike many of his other books, this does not focus on what could go wrong with science. It is more about what is wrong with science now. This novel is less entertaining, yet more compelling, than his last few books.
