NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I had to switch it off after half an hour, as I found it really boring. The story is very slow, and after the initial surprise with the time travelling mail box, nothing else happens… : (

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really liked it! Although I thought Keanu mumbled a lot and it made it hard to understand what he was saying. I had to put the subtitles on! I thought the storyline was really nice, especially the note painted on the wall for Sandra when she goes on that walk

WORTH CONSUMING!

Gosh, I read other people’s entries and wonder if we saw the same movie. I loved it. The time travel was great in that they didn’t create any conundrums they couldn’t solve. Keanu does come across a bit wooden but I ended up loving his earnestness, and him, anyway. Sandra was just great. The movie really made me believe in fairy tales again. Really.

And it made me want to read that book, Persuasion. Next library trip.

Could have been better. The kissing scene was just a bit too long. It was like they were trying to feel in some time.

Minus Keanu Reeves and his acting, it was a pretty good movie.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Unless you take time travel seriously, in which case it was terribly offensive, but I don’t, and besides that isn’t the review I set out to write.

I haven’t been able to sleep this week, not really relevant to most movie reviews, but it is to this one, because, and reviewers don’t acknowledge this nearly enough, treating each consumed objects as though its qualities were innate, objective, and timeless, rather then purely subjective evaluations that come into being at the moment of consumption.

So, I haven’t been able to sleep this week, like really, barely at all, and on a week when you’re having trouble sleeping, and you need something not too challenging, not too boring, not too engaging, pleasant without being overly stimulating for the long cold hours from 2-4, this is the perfect movie.

Kind of niche really for such mainstream actors.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoyed this movie, though there are a couple of points that bug me. One, the kiss shouldn’t have been discussed by Kate and her boyfriend until after it had happened in Alex’s time. Two, there was NO ATTIC when you looked at the lake house. Seriously, no attic.

Otherwise it was rather cute and entertaining.

nice try — 1 year ago

The Lake House has a great concept, but it suffers from poor execution and Keanu Reeves. As long as you know this going in, it can still be enjoyable. The actual lake house is a beautiful piece of architecture and would probably be a lovely vacation home. The magic mailbox is just a perk.

Happy Accidents explores similar themes and I found it to be more enjoyable. The Fountain promises to fall into this category as well. I’ll be interested in seeing how it turns out.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really enjoyed this film. It had an interesting concept. Really predictable though because I was able to predict it was him. If you’ve seen the film you know what I mean. Though a lot of people may not be able to predict it. I just somehow predict a lot of films that others cant figure out straight away. Bit of a cliche ending really.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I saw this on the plane back from Illinois. Neither the plot nor the acting were really that great. Plus, I have trouble taking Keanu Reeves seriously, he’s just so goofy.

Now, Speed, that’s the Keanu-and-Sandra movie I need to see. I’ve heard it’s not that great, but it’s too famous not to see it.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Even if you look past some of the bad time travel logic and the copout ending, it was still pretty uneventful and boring. Keanu Reeves is always pretty to look at, but that was pretty much all it had going for it.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

For such a pointless movie (with no message other than the one they beat you over the head with, which isn’t really that deep or meaningful in the first place), this movie wasn’t even enjoyable/fun!. I do like Sandra Bullock movies (While You Were Sleeping, 28 Days, etc) so it’s not just that these type of movies aren’t my cup of tea, I also enjoy dramas and the idea of time travel, etc. It just didn’t work. Partly it was that there wasn’t any entertaining bits in the middle, really. Also it might have been partly because Keanu Reeves sounded like a robot and didn’t really seem to have any chemistry with Sandra Bullock or even any charisma as a person. Gorgeous, maybe, but when he talks… =\ Their relationship seemed forced and silly. I wanted to like the movie, and maybe if it were a book or if they’d had more time it would have been better, because it was a little weak on details. For such a predictable plot (Really, who didn’t have it all figured out in the first few scenes of the movie?), there was too much time in foreshadowing and pointless sidetrips.

I guess I just lament that it wasn’t done differently because it could have been really good. Either it should have been more fun or more serious, but it wasn’t really either. And I didn’t even spend time trying to make it all “make sense!” (I was the one in the room going “Okay, let’s just suspend our disbelief for a minute…”)

thank you for the happy ending — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i figured it out way before Kate did, but i was so relieved by the ending, i think that it would have ruined the film otherwise. Some films/books do well with the sad endings but this one… the message would have been wrong. This was meant to be a “love conquers all” moment not a “oh well, you still have the other guy” one. The entire point of the film was that people can be together even if separated by time and that waiting is worth it. Awesome film, the best chick flick love story i’ve seen in a long time, probably since Kate & Leopold.

Wishy-washy — 1 year ago

I really enjoy the concept of time-travel, no matter what the vessel is. I enjoy the paradoxes that come from someone knowing the future, or trying to change the past. The more complex the scenerio, the more I tend to enjoy the book or movie.

Although I generally liked this film, I was rather frustrated by the ending. I was expecting a “life goes on,” “some things are unchangable,” kind of ending – but they went the happy, sappy route. I’m not meaning to be cynical, I just happen to be of the persuasion that I would rather see a movie that keeps me thinking well beyond the exit of the theater, than be patted on the head and told that I’m a good girl.

However, if you are the kind of person who only likes movies with happy endings, this one will not disapoint you.
