I wanted to like this! It’s got a sort of poetic languor about it that fits my mental image of Brazil. However. The key plot point highlighted on the jacket copy takes place in the final quarter of the book and the rest is just one digression after another. I didn’t find much to pull me along with the story at all. The overarching effect was soporific – so I suppose it has that going for it!
