Completely and utterly addictive. — 2 years ago
As the title says. One of the earliest releases for the PSP, I found Lumines to be one of the best games the system has to offer. It still is one of the better games available actually, though it does have a sequel.
The game is an interesting mix of puzzle and music. Essentially you have to make a square comprised of four blocks of the same color (there are two colors that change as the music changes between stages). These blocks are deleted from the screen as a bar is swiped from left to right, the speed of which is determined by the BPM of the song. Eventually the stages get increasingly more difficult as the drop speed of the boxes increases, and with slower songs it’s a matter of deleting as many blocks as you can in a single swipe of the bar.
The unfortunate thing about Lumines is its limited track listing and its score cap (I think it stops counting after you hit 999,999 or so). Still, it’s an addictive puzzle game that everyone with a PSP should get. It’s perfect for short bursts of play or an entire hour’s worth.
