i had rented this because i like salma hayek and butterflies. it had nothing to do w/butterflies except as symbolism, but what i did find was a wonderful story of sisterhood and their fight for independence. i am embarrassed to admit i did not know where the dominican republic was, borders haiti, nor familiar w/ their history. the story of the mirabal sisters and their struggles is a story i think everyone should at least browse at some point in their lives. the ending of this movie is v. powerful. even more so because we are left to our own imaginations instead of witnessing their brutal deaths.
