A question I have about this — 2 years ago

  • SPOILER WARNING !!! **

Why didn’t they make two movies out of this?
The plotline of the PP/MJ/Harry love triangle plus Sandman would have been movie 1, leaving out Harry’s death and then doing sequel 4 about venom, a villain worth more than just half a plot line. But I guess Spidey had to turn evilesque to make MJ turn to Harry, and Sandman is really good after all, so he had to be Venom’s goon. The tranformation/birth of Venom happened rather late in the movie. I would have enjoyed more action from scary Venom and less silliness with PP trying to be Shaft. Although: PP does look better with his fringe in his face and a bit of eyeliner.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Why does James Franco have to have a superpower that disfigures him? Why can’t he have a superpower that makes him naked all the time?

This was quite a fun and enjoyable movie, and I thought it was a lot better than the reviewers did, but it was no where near as good as the previous two. There were so many cheesy moments, and Tobey Maguire was really annoying, ambling about with his dopey smile on his face. And the sequence where he becomes evil Peter was really cringesome – what was with the terrible dancing? And the emo fringe? I also wasn’t really quite sure what the black stuff was – where did it come from? Why did it come to earth? Was it aiming for Peter or was that just coincidence? It just didn’t always make a huge amount of sense.

Lots of action, not much depth — 2 years ago

The reason I was disappointed by this movie is that each plotline is a good one. I love the Sandman plot; I especially love the Venom plotline, and the New Goblin deserved more than just a few pat scenes and an oh-so-heroic death. I feel like all three just clogged the movie up, it never really went anywhere on any of the plots because it was trying to keep up with all three villains/Spiderman, plus Peter/MJ.

The action, though, was excellent, and awesome CGI on the sandman. I thought of all the plotlines, venom was handled particularly well, with attention given not only to the effects on Spiderman, but on Peter as well. Overall, a good movie, but only for fairweather fans – hardcore fans will feel as though the movie didn’t do the comics justice, and non-fans might feel confused.
