WORTH CONSUMING!

Not gonna lie, it took me FOREVER to get into this. But I hate giving up on a book so I was just going to skim my way through (yah, I know it’s cheating…) and then about half way in I just got really really into it and started appreciating Joyce’s range and style. I still don’t recommend it to absolutely everyone, I definitely had to make the commitment to read it on my own, but I’m still glad I did it and I ended up really enjoying it.

This style of writing is definitely not for me!!! It’s a boring rambling mess!!

like most of the consumers on here, I never finished Ulysses. I don’t know what this says about me, but I know I stopped around page 300, when I couldn’t take any more of Bloom’s rambling thoughts. But I do see why Ulysses is “ranked up there” in the great works of literature. Still, I would have better understood its complexities if a young, handsome Dublin professor had explained the book to me while we sat on the cliff coasts of Ireland.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I hated this book. i was so determined to read it and love it, that I own it and still haven’t gotten through it. Not a fan of the style at all.

I know I’ll try again. Dammit.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming this — 3 years ago

I keep starting and stopping and asking myself if it is going to be worth it. How tempting that I have the option to say I have given up on this here at all consuming. I am extremely tempted, but I haven’t quite given up yet.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s been sitting on my shelf for years… thank goodness for “The Odyssey and Ulysses” class.

WORTH CONSUMING!

the only reason i haven’t gotten past page 200 is because i can’t find the centennial Irish version with the great introduction that I had checked out from a library in Ireland anywhere here in the states…. argh!

Fell out at like page 90. Couldn’t handle a whole chapter on shaving.

I was far too lazy and easily-intimidated to read this when it was assigned to me in college-Joyce’s own UCD-ten years ago. I wouldn’t have liked it then anyway. But it’s fabulous stuff, and much easier than I’d thought. The Nora biography helped.
