It’s very possible. Hellboy: The Chained Coffin and Others is an amazing collection of some of the best Hellboy stories ever made. Combining folklore with science fiction, Mignola’s tales run all over the place, from the Fae Folk to werewolves to the underworld to Golems. Some of my favourites include “The Corpse and The Iron Shoes”, two short but perfectly paced stories, and “A Christmas Underground”, which is just gorgeous. But it’s a section of the most uneven story, “The Wolves of St. August”, that really encapsulates why I love Hellboy. After the villain is revealed, he turns to Kate Spencer and says “You wait right here. I’ll be back in a minute. Gotta go do what I do.” Then he hits a werewolf with a flying uppercut while screaming “BOOM!” It’s not a sound effect. He’s actually yelling out “BOOM!” as he punches someone. How can you not love a guy like that?
