WORTH CONSUMING!

This is an excellent and well written story about human nature, hidden inside the story of a man that represents the tobacco companies for a living. I didn’t know a lot about the movie before I saw it, so I really enjoy the irony that is built into the story, even watching it again with Reitman’s commentary about the movie which points out that nobody in the movie actually smokes at all!

If you haven’t seen this movie, you will enjoy it!

it was alot funnier than i thought it would be. it’s kind of dark humor. some of it probably really does happen. i think it’s the kind of movie interested in politics should see.

Not as funny as I had expected, but thankfully not as didactic as it could have been either. Katie Holmes was an awful casting choice for the reporter, but other than that all the actors did a great job. I loved the character of Nick Naylor. I often wonder how spin doctors every where live with themselves; this movie gave me a glimpse into their “flexible morality.”

Flexible morality. And I like the idea.

There is no black and white, it’s just grey. Similarly, this movie is an interesting satire – not too over the top and not too preachy either. Everyone from the corporations to the activists to the politicians have their own agenda, their own justifications. It’s important in society that everyone’s voice is heard.

A consensus cannot be reached with differences and diversity to start from.

I used to work for an ad agency that had R.J. Reynolds Tobacco as a client. I’ve been to Winston-Salem. All I can say is, this movie is not as much of a satire as you might think it is. This movie packs plenty of star power: Robert Duvall, Rob Lowe, Katie Holmes, William H. Macy, Maria Bello, Adam Brody, and Sam Elliott. But it is all about Aaron Eckhart, who has created the ultimate “spin master” in his portrayal of Nick Naylor. Bravo.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Little Girl: My Mommy says smoking kills.
Nick Naylor: Oh, is your Mommy a doctor?
Little Girl: No.
Nick Naylor: A scientific researcher of some kind?
Little Girl: No.
Nick Naylor: Well then she’s hardly a credible expert, is she?

I liked this : ) Nick Naylor was quite convincing. If you put me in a room with him for 30 minutes, and I could probably be talked out of everything that I’ve believed in, ever. I wish I could argue like that.

I watched this with Casey and Sarah.

It’s funny how I saw this headline “Krispy Kreme turns to tobacco industry veterans for fix, marketing help” the day after I saw the movie. I cared about the main character and thought he was smart.
