I read a story in Parade(the magazine that accompanies the Sunday papers) about how this town somehow served hot meals and provided some entertainment during World War 2 to trains passing through on their way to and from the front lines; It intrigued me so that I had to get a copy of the book, and not only was the book very interesting, I learned that not only was the town mentioned involved, but the various communities surrounding North Platte got involved once they realized the magnitude of the situation; Very interesting human interest story.
