A story about this — 5 years ago
i think i like this better than da vinci code (still trying to figure it out though, they were both so good!) i love his views on religion, the pretty much mirror my own.

I thought it was better than the DaVinci Code. And this is why. I read it first. And I mean if you like the davinci coade you’ll like it. But since I didnt’ know any thing about the author and what not, it was good.
However after reading the Da Vinci coade i realized how fucking scooby doo the whoel this is. I mean its practicly the same book told one year later, in a different place. You know what we call this Danelle Steele.
But the actual book is good, i’m just pissed off at how he did the second book.
I really, really didn’t like this book.
The short chapters, drip feeding the plot and withholding information sent me crazy. Then there were often plot recaps at the start of each chapter, how short do you think my memory is?! Then there were huge chunks of exposition, just thrown in with no effort.
Also, having worked at CERN, its depication had me roaring with laughter. The director has a space plane!?! (For the record CERN is actually like a big trading estate and a large chunk of the work is done by the large coalition of Universities that work there). And don’t get me started on Antimatter.
The twists and turns annoyed me too. Very often there was no way to work it out, and when there was a way it was obvious. The last few chapters were so over the top and heavy handed I was not the slightest bit surprised at each twist.
But to be honest I think the plot may have survived in better hands, but the writing was so dreadful, the plot trying so hard to be shocking….
I hated it.
I’m probably the only person in the world that thinks this apparently, but I hate Dan Brown. I really hate Dan Brown. I should have known better after reading The Da Vinci Code. I bought the book because I was visiting Rome on vacation and was told this book enhanced a visit to Rome. And that it did in that I did look for some of the things Brown describes.
But, what about the story itself? Brown has this amazing way of engaging the reader and not letting go. Sounds good, right? Well, it would be if his plotlines weren’t so ridiculous. By the time I was finished with this book, I was just disgusted with it and threw it in the trash (for my friend to recover and read, sadly). Robert Langdon is just the most amazing guy that is able to get away with the most amazing things. It’s such total crap.
Here’s the deal. I love conspiracy stories, I really do. But just make them believable with realistic characters and this book would have been great. Such a great idea, competely botched. What a waste of time. Sigh.
More exciting, more action, better plot, better “puzzles” than in The Da Vinci Code. A little bit more morbid (more murders and descriptions), though, but I guess that equals more suspense in the plot. It’s written in the form of the “Dan Brown cliche.”
I am actually enjoying this one MORE than The Da Vinci Code! Much more exciting, less predictable, At least, so far. Glad I picked it up!
Don’t bother. Good storyline with some of the worst writing I’ve ever read. Read The DaVinci code (also awful writing, but more interesting) or better yet, see the movie when it comes out (and skip the awful writing altogether.
Quite an interesting book if you are into secret societies and things such as that. Also particularly entertaining if you have some predilection about tales on the Roman Catholic; Dan Brown seems to favor these kinds of stories.
My favorite Dan Brown book. The Da Vinci Code might have been more edgy and more movie-maker-friendly, but I got into A&D a little more than DVC since I could relate to its Sunday School bible references better than DVC’s Renaissance art.
I didn’t find this as thrilling as The Da Vinci Code, but it was nevertheless a very good holiday read.
This is better than the Da Vinci Code, tighter plot and better historical references. I’m not terribly happy with the ending, reminds me of a M. Night Shyamalan movie.
Action packed, but formulaic, especially evident to anyone who has read The Da Vinci Code. Angels and Demons is a fast-paced and clever, weaving fact and fiction into the story using elements of both ancient mythology and modern day urban legend. Good book to read on a plane.
The first of the Robert Langdon series… I really loved the cover illustration (the title of the book as an ambigram).
It’s starting to feel a little formulatic…yep, was formulatic. I enjoyed it though.
Just finished this yesterday. Dan Brown clearly has a formula for all his books, but I really enjoyed this one. Some good twists and turns.
