This movie version of the historic epic “Beowulf” reminded me strongly of Derek Jarmans “Edward II”. A lot of things were just absurd, like the handgun-crossbow, the motor saw swords, the actual construction of the outpost, the transformation of Grendel’s mother as a giant crab… !
I liked the way the “monster” was visualised, dark and shadowy, with a mysterious voice – not this heap of butchered flesh as in the new Beowulf version. It was also very interesting to have Beowulf introduced not as the “hero”, but as the “anti-hero”, a devil’s son, maybe.
All in all, an awful movie, but because of this, funny to watch! :)
