I disliked that the author felt she needed to use so much bad language to accurately (and interestingly) portray teenage conversation. Once I got past that, I found the characters likeable, if a bit plastic. That she put in such a flawed, yet likeable character in Marcus was what finally won me over. I can see why these books are so popular.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

A re-read, since I bought the sequel and wanted to refresh my memory. The main character was more likeable this time around, but Jesus, do we really need a reference to popular culture every paragraph? I get it, Megan McCafferty, you’re hip and you write for Cosmo.

Exactly what I need on a sad day to make me remember all the good and bad stuff from high school and make me laugh about it all.

Amazon’s been recommending this to me for ages, and I’m glad I finally read it. It feels very authentically “teenager” and reminds me a lot of “Feeling Sorry for Celia” (which is probably why Amazon kept recommending it!). I’m waiting impatiently for the sequel to come in this afternoon.
