Excellent. Really made me want to see the stage version.

Excellent. Really made me want to see the stage version.
Probably one of my top three favorite movies.
Anyone who says it’s too long or the songs suck..
I can bet it was your first time wacthing it.
I felt the same.
Then I saw it live,WOW.
Afterwards I got back into the movie and fell in love.
There is not one bad song :)

I mean, really, no matter what I probably would’ve had complaints…
But it really is pretty good. I don’t like the chronological changes ‘cause it leaves me a little confused, and there’s a lot left out…
BUT, if I choose to watch it without comparing, it’s really beautiful… The Life Support moments and One Song Glory… Those really get me.
I’d reccomend it.

I thought the movie was ok, but a little confusing. I liked the music, so I might be interested in watching Rent on stage at some point. The ending was kind of contrived, though.

I’m not much of a “movie musical” person. On stage, I generally like them because theatre is, well, theatrical! Movies are different for me. I did enjoy it, mostly.
It was very long. And I felt like it was long, if the movie is gonna be long, don’t let it drag on and on.
Also the ending, was, well… I don’t want to give it away.
Ah, I’m not much a reviewer, oh well.

The critic in me had a couple of caveats:
—there were a couple of overly sentimental scenes, and the ending scene could’ve handled one particular moment more subtly (if something’s supposed to be a surprise, let me be surprised)
—some people might take issue with the “art is better than commerce” and “love conquers all” themes.
On the whole, though, this was a quite good adaptation of the stage musical, with wonderful performances and good use of film techniques.

I really enjoyed this, and immediately after I mailed it back to Blockbuster, I wished I had kept it longer (I guess I can always rent it again or even buy it). I never saw the theatrical production, so I can’t compare it to that. I did think that a few elements were obviously leftovers from the theatrical production that didn’t quite translate well to film, and some of the singing was a bit overdone, since it was apparently recorded in a studio and then lip-synced in (I’m thinking specifically of the cemetery scene, but it probably applies to a few other scenes as well).
Still, as I said, I really enjoyed it and am now on the lookout for a second-hand version of the soundtrack.

I really feel like I’ll never stop consuming RENT.
