WORTH CONSUMING!

Perhaps because I wasn’t that enamoured of the first two, but I thought this was okay. Overall plot was slim – as ever – but there were enough funny moments to keep me going. I loved the subtle ones I spotted – the frog chorus (bum, bum bum eye-i-eye!) singing McCartney’s Live and Let Die had me as a solo chuckler!

Otherwise, I confess the supporting cast were much better than the slightly annoying leads (what is going on with Shrek’s accent?!), especially the donkey/dragon babies (is there irony in seeing Eddie Murphy’s Donkey giving parenting advice the day Murphy himself announces to the world that his daughter wasn’t wanted?!) and the ever wonderful Puss in Boots. And the various princesses were quite amusing, I guess.

Overall, not worth the hype, but a fun enough 80-odd minutes.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It was highly amusing, if you’re 5 that is, and not tired, one of our Party slept through it…And no it wasn’t Speedy.

Lots of jokes around bodily functions, just what you would expect from Mike Myers though. And his accent sucked, it didn’t even sound Scottish anymore, like he couldn’t be bothered.

Take the kids, we did, in fact we took the neighbours kids too, it was like the Waltons visit the cinema. A word of advice, if you go see this in Nantgarw don’t go to McDonalds before hand, it’s full of Emo kids.

Technically high-quality, the CGI was amazing, but the plot and characters are getting more than a little tired, although I will always enjoy anything with John Cleese and Eric Idle in it.

My one remaining question is, if the king got married to the queen and had princess Fiona as first-born daughter, when exactly and with whom did he father the whiny brat Artie?

Somebody below in the thread said “Justin Timberlake can act” and deserves to be beaten to a pulp with those very words.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Man. Seriously fun movie. Great, fun soundtrack. Justin Timberlake can act (especially given that it’s really hard to do voice-over (or so I’ve heard)). Almost as good as the first one, SHADOWS and LIGHT were UNBELIEVABLE! And the part with Snow White is the most kick-ass thing I’ve ever seen in a theater.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie didn’t have the bite of the previous two, but it was still laugh out loud funny.

just ok — 2 years ago

i loved the first Shrek, but didn’t particularly care for the second. i would rate this one higher than the second, but only a bit higher. i love these characters, and i want to know what happens to them, but there wasn’t anything here. i didn’t come to see Prince Charming be the same person he already was, there wasn’t any character development there. And for all the bad guys to be against Shrek, who one would think should be a figurehead for their cause, just didn’t make much sense. i think it would have been better if they were campaigning against Artie or something, if they wanted Shrek to be king because he would look out for their best interests. But instead of rising to the power of the first film, this sequel falls flat instead. The films fail to realize that you shouldn’t have to be in the swamp to be happy, you should bring the swamp with you and make the world a better place.

This one did not have me dying with laughter as the first two did. It was worth the free ticket I happened to have. I guess it started slow. I’m a huge Shrek fan so I still enjoyed it, but critically I’d say it was just okay. Some great moments but not nearly enough.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s definitely cute, but doesn’t come close to the first two. Still, people will whine about it because a lot of people equate cute with silly or stupid.
