i loved this book the first time i read it, but i’m going to have to re-read it now that i’ve taken a greek mythology course, i think i’ll appreciate it more.

Setting is vigorously well drawn out. An enjoyable and somewhat bitter tale that doesn’t mirror Napoli’s other work (read: It’s unique!) Impressive as usual.

Funny, Napoli doesn’t usually make me feel like she’s trying to breathe life into a history lesson, but that’s what this felt like. Maybe it’s the complication inherent in Greek mythology – the unending lists of names and places and chains of events. The book is compelling nonetheless. I admire how Napoli creates humor without bringing an anachronistic Disney-esque cultural familiarity to her work.
