WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t believe I have seen a bad Lasse Hallstrom film. This one is wonderful. The parallels drawn are strong but not overworked, the main drama between Redford and Freeman wonderfully acted (and better viewed the second time when you know more of their story and can see what the significance of the stares are). Lopez is not bad (not good but not bad, this role doesn’t require much and she’s fine in it). Lovely setting too.

And what I liked most about this film is how the townspeople didn’t have to talk about their sadnesses—everyone knows them. They are not hiding, but they don’t have to blabber on and on about it either. Love that sense of real community that is in that detail.

And I don’t want Redford as my grandpa—I’d still take him as my lover! Scruffy and all. Love how the man sits a horse.
