There are so many flaws in this film and from poorly done dubbing, an unbelievable plot, bad cuts and terrible continuity.
There was a poem called Dream Box. Seriously, she was supposed to be a legitimate poet and she wrote a poem called dream box. I think it began like this, ” I put my dreams in a box, so they wouldn’t be spoiled…” Now this was just something on the screen for a second but if it’s going to be that quick just write something obscure and contrived so it’s too hard to read. or write those two lines but don’t call the poem Dream Box.
The editing seems incredibly rushed or maybe there just wasn’t enough takes/ coverage. It takes a bit to get started but than there is just something about Hugh Grant that I love. It may be my downfall. He is just funny and charming no matter what he is doing or saying. He doesn’t ever play different characters and really I wouldn’t want him to. Anyway despite its obvious faults I still laughed loud and hard and not just because of the bad parts. It is a romantic comedy and sappy but not as horrible as it could have been.
Grant really has excellent comic timing and fantastic and absurd lines. And Drew Barrymore even had some good comedic moments that were intentionally awkward but not pitiful which is awesome, and made me really like her character. By the end I was pretty sucked in and lost most of my cynicism but its too hard to dislike Hugh Grant. He is my weakness.
